August 23, 2024, will be celebrated as the first National Space Day of India. This event is held in New Delhi at Bharat Mandapam to pay homage to the great achievements of India in the field of space and, more importantly, the successful landing of the Chandrayaan-3 mission on the Moon.
Why National Space Day is Important to Me: The National Space Day is quite relevant because it is recognizing an enormous success in space research for India. On August 23, 2023, India once again made history when the Chandrayaan-3 Vikram Lander landed near the Moon’s south pole, which was never explored before. Therefore, India became the first country to land near the south pole and the fourth country to land successfully on the Moon. This success proves India’s leadership in space technology.
August 23 was therefore declared as National Space Day, a remembrance to India’s incredible journey in space in order to motivate future progress.
Theme and Celebrations This year’s theme for the celebrations of National Space Day has been coined as, “Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga.” In the light of this, it is clear that India’s space missions are not only about exploring space but also aim at betterment in life on Earth through newer technologies.
The activities at the Bharat Mandapam would include interactive exhibitions, important announcements about future missions, and “Space on Wheels,” which is a mobile exhibition that would visit schools and colleges throughout the country for creating awareness and educating students about India’s status in the domain of space exploration.
Principal Events and Activities The festival was inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu at Bharat Mandapam. Seminars and exhibitions have been organized, and events are being broadcast live on many platforms so that all Indians across different parts of the country can participate.
One of the wonderful events is the Bharatiya Antariksh Hackathon, in which students from all across India come up with creative solutions to space challenges. Best teams display their work during the event and show the importance of young people in India’s space future.
Conclusion National Space Day 2024 has celebrated the day of gigantic achievements of India in space and steps towards promising future. It is a day to inspire one and all, particularly the young generation, on the infinite prospects of space exploration. As India continues to progress further in the journey of space technology, National Space Day shall remind us of the country’s journey and its bright future in space.
