Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has been called in on September 25 through a court order on a defamation lawsuit. The complaints had been filed by BJP leader Kasam Venkateswarlu; he claimed he produced false statements against an election campaign of Revanth Reddy.

The BJP was outraged after it was allegedly claimed during a political rally that the party, if it comes to power, will remove reservations. It was further claimed in the same rally that the BJP wants to make amendments to the Indian Constitution. These statements angered the leaders of this party and are assumed to be for the misguiding of voters and damaging the party.

Legal Action

After the remarks, a complaint was lodged by the BJP leader. Several times the lower courts caused the delay of the case, therefore, Kasam Venkateswarlu approached the Telangana High Court. The High Court directed a special court to expedite the process of court serving notice to Revanth Reddy.

Based on the evidence shown, the appropriateness of proceeding with the case was agreed upon. The charges against Revanth Reddy include defamation and other related offences under the Indian Penal Code and the Representation of the People Act.

The court will frame charges against Revanth Reddy on September 25. As per the court direction for speedy disposal of the case, day-to-day hearings will be on until delivery of judgment.
